The risk of becoming ill with diabetes, cancer or heart disease, causing 66% of all deaths in the world, is always higher, says the report "World Health Statistics Service 2011" published today in the website of the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to WHO, non-infectious diseases such as cancer, stroke and diabetes cause more often than other people's death. The number of patients with these diseases increases as a result of an aging population, the smoking habit, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating, excessive consumption alcohol and the existence of other risks related to globalization and urbanization.
Four out of ten men and one in every eleven women smoke. One in eight adults is obese. According to WHO, the fight against those factors becomes critical to the conservation of population health and reducing mortality.
At the same time, many developing countries still continue to fight against diseases such as pneumonia, malaria and diarrhea, leading causes of death of children under five years of age, WHO reports.
organizationExperts say the life expectancy should increase in coming years because of increased allocations for public health. But the drop in these costs among low-income countries and rich countries is enormous.
"World Health Statistics Public" is an annual report that includes more than one hundred health indicators provided by 193 WHO member states and from other reliable sources.
